Diwali – Festival of Lights

Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in India. While many celebrate it with lamps and sweets, at ISKCON, Diwali holds a much deeper spiritual meaning.
This auspicious day marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating the demon Ravana, as described in the Ramayana. In Krishna consciousness, we also celebrate this day by lighting lamps to welcome the Lord into our hearts and lives.
🪔 Diwali in Bhakti Tradition
- Return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya 🏰
- Victory of light over darkness 🌟
- Devotees light ghee lamps to welcome Lord Krishna in their hearts
- Home altars are beautifully decorated
- Special kirtans and bhoga offerings are made
At ISKCON temples, Diwali is celebrated with deepdan (lamp offering), special bhajans, and heartfelt prayers. Devotees also clean and decorate their homes and altars to invite divine blessings.
As Srila Prabhupada taught, real Diwali means illuminating our heart with the knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita and living a life of Krishna consciousness. Let us use this festival not just for enjoyment, but as an opportunity to reconnect with the Lord.
