Hare Krishna Movement
Chanting, dancing, and devotion – a global spiritual revolution
🌍 A Worldwide Spiritual Movement
The Hare Krishna Movement, officially known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), began in 1966 in New York, founded by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. But its roots trace back much further.
Over 500 years ago, Lord Sri Krishna appeared as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, declaring that the chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra would spread to every town and village in the world.
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare"
🚢 The Journey of a Saint
In 1965, at age 69, Srila Prabhupada boarded a cargo ship from Mumbai to New York to spread Krishna consciousness in the West. With no money and no followers, he began from a small storefront in New York’s Lower East Side.
By 1966, he officially registered ISKCON and began teaching spiritual truths from the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam to the world. Today, ISKCON temples, farms, schools, and food distribution programs operate globally.
🎵 Why Chant the Hare Krishna Mantra?
Chanting this mantra is not just a ritual — it is the revival of our pure spiritual identity. Krishna means “all-attractive,” Rama means “the reservoir of pleasure,” and Hare refers to Krishna’s divine energy, Srimati Radharani.
By chanting, we purify the heart, awaken our dormant love for God, and uplift society through peace, joy, and unity.
💃 Sankirtana: Public Chanting & Dancing
Devotees regularly engage in kirtan—chanting and dancing in temples or on the streets—not for show, but to benefit others spiritually. Even hearing the Holy Name accidentally brings great benefit, as taught in the scriptures.
🙏 The Purpose Behind the Movement
The Hare Krishna movement is more than chanting — it’s a call to live a simple, pure, and service-centered life, aligned with Krishna’s teachings. It's about devotion, compassion, and spreading true happiness.
Join the movement. Chant. Dance. Celebrate. Discover the bliss of Krishna Consciousness.
